Top Finnish Prospect Tuomas Grönvall Seeks to Honor Mentor with Cage 54 Victory

Top Finnish Bantamweight fighter Tuomas “The Train” Grönvall (8-4-1; #4 ranked Nordic Bantamweight) will seek to honor his long-time mentor, Mikael “The Hulk” Silander with a victory at Cage 54. Grönvall will take on Bulgaria’s Kostadin Enev (12-8-0; #10 ranked Nordic Bantamweight) at Cage 54 on Saturday, April 23rd, 2022 at Helsinki, Finland’s House of Culture. The fight will serve as Cage 54’s main event. All fights will be broadcast live in Scandinavia, The Baltics, The Netherlands, and Poland on Viaplay, in major English-speaking markets via The Fight Network, and available worldwide (excluding Viaplay countries) via pay-per-view courtesy of Fite.

Grönvall, who recently put on a dominant performance against Lucas Pereira en route to a unanimous decision victory at Cage 53, makes a quick return to the cage in search of continued momentum. Grönvall believes his bout with Kostadin Enev will be a short stop on his path to a contract with the UFC and eventual title aspirations. In achieving such lofty heights, Grönvall will seek to honor his long-time coach and mentor, former M1 Flyweight Title challenger, Mikael Silander (20-9).

When asked about their bond, Grönvall had the following to say of his long-time coach: “The time that Mikael has coached me and we have trained together has pushed my career massively forward. Besides technical skills I have learned a lot from him and he has really made me grow as an athlete.”

Silander, who has recently flirted with retirement, views Grönvall as a continuation of his legacy and believes the 28-year-old Finn has what it takes to carry their country’s flag and team banner to the highest of levels.

Silander gave extremely high praise to his protege ahead of his upcoming bout, including estimating a UFC debut within the next two years.

“Tuomas Grönvall has the potential to be the next top Finnish athlete to break through to the top leagues. His fighting IQ and skills have taken a big leap within the last 12 months and I think he is ready to truly show what he is capable of and to reach his true potential. I think Tuomas will break through to the top organizations within the next two years,” said Silander.

Despite Grönvall’s intentions of honoring his mentor in victory, a dangerous threat stands in his way. The crafty veteran Kostadin Enev will look to deny Grönvall his opportunity at success as he seeks to reaffirm his own place amongst Northern Europe’s top Bantamweights with a win over the rapidly rising Grönvall. A victory over Grönvall could very well put the #10 ranked Nordic Bantamweight back on his own path to high-level competition.
