Second Half Of The 2022 PFL Season Continues With PFL 5

SECOND HALF OF THE 2022 PFL SEASON CONTINUES WITH PFL 5 FEATURING HEAVYWEIGHTS AND FEATHERWEIGHTS JUNE 24 AT 9 P.M. ET/ 6 P.M. PT ON ESPN and ESPN+

The Professional Fighters League (PFL), the fastest growing and most innovative sports league, today announced its main event and full card matchups for PFL 5, taking place on June 24 at Overtime Elite Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. PFL 5 will stream Friday, June 24 at 5:30 p.m. ET/ 2:30 p.m. PT on ESPN+ and air at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT on ESPN (simulcast on ESPN+)

2021 Heavyweight World Champion Bruno Cappelozza returns for his second Regular Season bout where he will take on fellow-Brazilian Matheus Scheffel in what should be an explosive slugfest. The returning champ ended Stuart Austin’s night with a first-round knockout to secure six points, putting him in great position to make the Playoffs. Scheffel will need to earn a stoppage if he has any hopes of making the postseason after he dropped his first match to Croatian slugger Ante Delija.

Anthony Pettis returns to the PFL Lightweight division after an impressive submission win over Myles Price at PFL 3 which earned him six points that have him atop the division standings. He’ll look to add to that total when he takes on Scotland’s Stevie Ray in the co-headliner. While Pettis is comfortably positioned, Ray will likely need an early stoppage to bank enough points to earn a playoff spot.

NEW YORK CITY SET TO HOST 2022 PFL WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

2021 Featherweight finalist Chris Wade is in a dogfight to secure a fourth consecutive postseason berth. With no finishes in the first half of the year, the featherweight division is wide open heading into the second half of the season and Wade will have his hands full with well-rounded veteran Kyle Bochniak.

Renan Ferreira displayed his frightening skillset in his 25 second destruction of Jamelle Jones in their first-round matchup. The 6’8” “Problema” unloaded on his opponent to score the six-point finish and secure his place atop the Heavyweight standing. He will look to extend his impressive PFL run when he steps in against his countryman Klidson Abreu to round out the main card of PFL 5. Abreu will need to figure out a way to solve Ferreira, and early, if he has any intention of making a Playoff appearance in 2022.

“The stakes continue to rise on the road to the PFL Playoffs live from OTE Arena in Atlanta,” said PFL CEO Peter Murray. “The PFL’s unique season format makes each fight a must win and delivers the best MMA action to the millions of fans around the world.”
